November : Short Course on "Update on Forest Inventory & Mensuration"

previous page
21 November, 2011

Because of the expressed interest of the forestry industry to have a course in Pietermaritzburg we will repeat the short course, which was successfully held in Stellenbosch this year at the UKZN Campus, in a compact two day workshop.

We were again lucky to engage well known specialists in remote sensing, inventory and GIS applications from Göttingen University to contribute to the workshop.

We will present an introduction to the freeware QuantumGIS, GIS supported planning of enumerations and will discuss crucial factors for an inventory, including inventory design, choice of sampling designs, error sources and typical pitfalls and problems in the current South African systems. For details see the attached course plan.
