SAFCOL hands over Glory Hill Clinic to the Mpumalanga Department of Health
The South African Forestry Company SOC Limited (SAFCOL) officially handed over Glory Hill Clinic to the Mpumalanga Department of Health, on the 16th of March, 2021. The community of Graskop and surrounding areas will now receive dignified medical assistance.
An estimated amount of R3 million was invested in the construction of the 266m² Clinic.
The clinic consists of seven consultation rooms with modern finishes, air conditioning, adequate onsite parking, a reception area with modern finishes and a spacious dispensary.
The clinic will benefit approximately 4 500 people from in and around Graskop.
SAFCOL CEO, Tsepo Monaheng, led the media and attendees to the building, where the MEC for Health in Mpumalanga, Honourable Ms Sasekani Manzini and
Executive Mayor of Thaba Chweu Local Municipality, Friddah Nkadimeng, cut the ribbon, officially declaring the clinic open.
Nkadimeng led the delegation into the premises accompanied by the clinic's Operations Manager, showcasing all the rooms, which included an emergency room, a counselling room and a pharmacy.
"We are happy to have our own spacious clinic. Where we come from, we didn't even have a storeroom. We would use a single room for consultations, which was also an office and kitchen. Now, with the additional rooms, our filing system has improved and we take less time to find a file. The staff is also motivated. They, along with the patients, have more privacy when they treat a patient." - Kate Boyd, Clinic Operations Manager.
After hosting a Mandela Day activity at Glory Hill Clinic two years ago, which was then at an old community hall building, it was evident to SAFCOL that there was a dire need for a decent facility; and so the Company CEO, Mr. Tsepo Monaheng, made the commitment to see to a dignified structure for a clinic that would benefit the community. The construction of Glory Hill Clinic was completed in the year 2020.
"The concept was initiated about 2 years ago so we are happy to be finally seeing the realisation of this moment. The clinic will impact Graskop community positively - without health, we are doomed as a people. We realised the needs of the community and had a meeting with the department. We agreed that resources were needed for such a facility. We are happy to have been able to support this project. Many people will benefit from it, including our own employees."
Both the MEC for Health and the Executive Mayor praised the partnership with SAFCOL and expressed gratitude for the community which would benefit from the facility.
