REPORT BACK FROM 40TH INTERNATIONAL FORESTRY STUDENTS SYMPOSIUM

On behalf of Saasveld Forestry Association (SFA) at Nelson Mandela Metropolitan University I want to extend our sincere gratitude for the continuous financial support we get from Forestry South Africa.

This year we attended the 40th International Forestry Students' Symposium held in Turkey which was of great success with some achievements from South Africa side, this couldn't have happened without your support in making it possible for us to attend this remarkable students' symposium. To all staff of Forestry South Africa we are so proud of you! It is really a good investment you making by supporting us in everything we do as SFA. This year the International Forestry Students' Association (IFSA) held the number of GAs as the tradition whereby a new Leadership for the association is elected as well as other officials for different positions within IFSA structures. For the first time in the history of this association, two Africans were elected to serve on board as council members for 2012/2013 and the board consists of seven members from different countries across the world. One African guy is from Nigeria and the other one is myself, this is indeed a huge achievement for African continent in Forestry. During the celebration of the new IFSA board, we were asked to sing and dance "Waka Waka" as the IFSA members were saying its time for Africa to take a lead. We are so thankful as SFA for this and we rely on your support to keep doing good for our industry at the students' perspective. This year Mr Salmon van Zyl (M Tech Forest Engineering student) was re-elected as the Southern Africa Regional Representative for IFSA 2012/2013. Prof Jos Louw was also elected as the Honorary member from South Africa replacing the deceased Prof Kader Asmal.

Please spread the news on your website for our industry to see this, we have also written an article to Wood SA magazine giving the feedback and thanking all our sponsors including FSA.

Best regards
