Invitation: ICFR Occasional Seminar on Biorefinery Technologies

This is an invitation to the next ICFR Occasional Seminar of 2016, to be held at the ICFR in Pietermaritzburg.

The seminar is entitled Biorefinery Technologies in the Forest Products Industries  and will be given by Dr Bruce Sithole (Forestry and Forest Products Research Centre, UKZN/CSIR)   on Friday 14 October 2016, at 13h45 for 14h00 -15h00 in the ICFR Conference Room, ICFR, Pietermaritzburg, UKZN, Carbis Rd.

Currently, the forest products industry extracts about 47% value from trees and the rest of the material is lost as waste. A major fraction of the waste is in the form of sawdust and chips from saw mill operations and organic sludge from pulp and paper mill operations. Therefore, maximising the capital effectiveness of forestry, pulp and paper operations is a focus area of the industry as a way to increase revenues. One promising approach to achieve this is by adaptation of the bio-refinery concept. The seminar covers the work being done by the programme in the development of new value chains from saw mill waste and sludge from pulp and paper mill operations.

More details are in the attached programme.

All are welcome to attend and please help us by passing this information on to any colleagues who may be interested in attending.

Please RSVP for catering purposes by Wednesday 12 October.
