Forestry South Africa is South Africa's premier and largest forestry organization and represents growers of timber in South Africa. The Association's membership includes corporate companies, commercial timber growers, emergent and small scales growers who between them own and control more than 93% of the total plantation area in South Africa.

This senior position, reporting to the Executive Director, will see you managing the Business Unit's activities and resources to ensure sector growth and development.

Your functions will include:
  • Providing leadership in and co-ordination of policy and strategy and provide inputs into the Forestry Charter, Industry Plan of Action, Provincial Growth and Development Strategies and Integrated Development Plans
  • Interacting with internal and external sector stakeholders at all levels to facilitate sector growth and development;
  • Providing strategic and expert leadership in the negotiation, development, management, monitoring and evaluation of international and national partnership programmes;
  • Designing, implementing and monitoring of interventions to bring small and medium forest enterprises into the mainstream affairs of the forestry sector;
  • Overseeing management of human and capital resources and general administration of the Unit
  • Participating in key forestry forums

Therefore our ideal candidate will need:
  •   Arelevant degree /diploma in Forestry
  • Experience in forestry and rural development
  • A proven track record in project management
  • Should display good business acumen and problem solving skills
  • Good written and oral communication skills and the ability to speak either Zulu or Xhosa
  • Should have good interpersonal skills and the ability to operate under pressure
